Competition Divisions & Standards

An overview of the categories athletes and trios can enter at the CanWest Games, from Elite Individuals to Scaled Teams.

Standards help keep competition fair across ability levels.

How Divisions Work

The CanWest Games offers separate individual and team categories so athletes can compete alongside peers of similar experience and capacity. Movement standards and workout variations are published with each qualifier to support fair judging.

Online qualifiers are required for Elite Individual, Masters Individual, Teens Individual, and Trio Team divisions, while Invitational and other team categories may receive direct invitations.

Divisions at a multi-sport fitness competition like this one are designed to give every athlete a fair and motivating lane to compete in. By separating competitors into individual and team categories, the event organizers make sure that workout capacity, age, and experience are matched as closely as possible. Movement standards are published with each qualifier, giving athletes a clear benchmark to train toward and judges a consistent reference for scoring. This structure keeps the competition field level while still allowing room for athletes of varied backgrounds to push themselves against peers who share a similar starting point.

Online qualifiers play a central role in the division system, particularly for elite, masters, and teen individual brackets as well as trio team entries. Posting a qualifying score online serves as the gateway to a main event spot, filtering the field to those who are genuinely prepared for the demands of the weekend. For invitational and other team formats, organizers may extend direct invitations, allowing established groups or special categories to bypass the qualifier step. This blended approach balances accessibility with competitive integrity, ensuring that the athletes who take the floor have earned their place.

Behind every division is a team of staff and volunteers who help translate published standards into smooth, well-judged competition days. Workout variations are tailored to each category so that movements remain safe, scalable, and appropriate for the athletes performing them. The result is a weekend where spectators, partners, and community supporters can watch a competition that feels both welcoming and challenging. Clear divisions, transparent standards, and dedicated people on the ground combine to create an experience that athletes remember long after the final podium picture is taken.
